Grindslow Knoll and Golden Clough

It was a shock when a realised that I was walking in the wrong direction off the top of Grindslow Knoll, I was horrified at my navigation error which lead to this predicament.
I have n't been out for a while and a loss of some skills was showing!

The conditions today were perfect for training and navigation practice. Leaving Edale village via the Pennine Way alternative route I headed up to Grindslow Knoll up into the clouds. A clear path leads eventually to the summit cairn which today was very blustery and covered totally in cloud. Perfect for navigation practice.

The navigation error was to assume that I knew my way off without the aid of a compass. I thought I was following with the correct gradient to my right. I was feeling confident  and a little way down the hill checked my compass. Shock horror, I was proceeding in completely the wrong direction and heading back towards Edale!

After setting a route which would take me to the head of Grindsbrook Clough, I met a party of walkers enquiring about the best way off the hill, I reminded them of the need for good compass work!

The remainder of my walk followed the southern edges of Kinder returning to Edale via the path near Golden Clough. It was excellent to get out again.
