Eroica Britannia is a festival of cycling and for the next couple of years it will be held in the Peak District. The festival based at the Bakewell showground was held over the weekend. On a beautiful sunny afternoon we parked our car at the overspill car park at Hassop and walked along the Monsal trail to the old Bakewell rail station. We queued for a little while it was good to bump into a Castle Mountaineering club friend. There were many bikes, people dressed in fin costumes  and lots of stalls in the festival ground.  There was a brass band playing and people parading bikes and costumes in an arena. Keisha and Louis were drawn straight to the fair and had rides on the Big Wheel. Dodgems and Fun House. One of the best parts was the sports area where we participated in various races running, egg and spoon and finally a tug of war. There were various bike simulators but before we got to have a try the heavens opened!

The main part of the festival took place took place on the Sunday with a number of cycle tours some of our friends (Chris and Pete) we participating in these events. Pete was doing the 100 mile cycle ride an impressive tour of the Peak district. We met Pete and his family in Hartington which was the half way point. One of the conditions for participating in the cycle event is that your bike should be older than 1987.

The event was very enjoyable and we're all enthused and want to get on our bikes!
